About Asia Waypoint
A small firm built on the working methods of a newsroom.
Asia Waypoint is a China-focused advisory and research agency founded by Henrik Bork, formerly China and Japan correspondent for Süddeutsche Zeitung. Asia Waypoint is based in Beijing and registered in Hong Kong, and works for multinationals, mid-sized industrial companies and investors who need to understand China or communicate inside it.
How the work is done
Chinese sources, read in Chinese
Regulatory notices, ministry announcements, national standards and Chinese business media, read in the original. Translation comes after the reading, never instead of it.
Newsroom discipline
Every claim attributed to the source that made it. Numbers checked against the original document. What cannot be sourced does not appear, and a gap is marked as a gap.
Distance from official claims
Records, performance figures and promises from Chinese institutions are reported as claims, with the claimant named. Ordinary practice, and rarer in China analysis than it should be.
A judgment at the end
Research that stops at description leaves the work to the reader. Every chapter closes with what the facts mean for a European company.
The team
An international team of researchers supplies the Chinese raw material every week. Henrik Bork carries the writing and the client relationships. Wang Kuangyi, his partner and a graduate of the China University of Political Science and Law, carries the reading of Chinese law. The same senior people every month, not a rotating account team.
Sectors
Deepest in industrial manufacturing, machine building, automotive and electronics, and in cybersecurity and data governance across all sectors. Also healthcare, finance, e-commerce, tourism and cross-border expansion.
The company
Asia Waypoint Ltd. is registered in Hong Kong and based in Beijing. Working languages English, German and Chinese.
